Position Summary | The Clinic represents veterans and their dependents with claims for benefits from the Veterans Administration and from the branches of military service. The Clinic represents veterans throughout Georgia, with a particular focus on those in rural areas. The Clinic enrolls between 6-12 law students every semester and includes undergraduate veterans in the clinic's work. The staff attorney will work under the direction of the Director of the Clinic to represent veterans, supervise students, and build the Clinic's practice. The staff attorney will be attorney of record on claims from the VA and other agencies, discharge upgrades from the military, and other forms of relief from the VA and elsewhere. The staff attorney will supervise law students and undergraduates. The staff attorney will collaborate on outreach efforts into rural communities throughout Georgia. |
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies | Possess outstanding skills in litigation and administrative advocacy; excellent written and oral communication abilities; a successful track record of working effectively with veterans and with other vulnerable client populations; and a demonstrated commitment to working with veterans or other under-served populations. The position expects: an ability to supervise young lawyers effectively; strong organizational and time management skills; and an ability to engage in community education and outreach initiatives. |
